Rezum 3D Animation with Patient Audio

Dr Elmes offers this new minimally invasive treatment option for an enlarged prostate. Rezum is a treatment for BPH that uses the stored thermal energy in water vapour (steam) to treat the extra prostate tissue that is causing symptoms such as frequency, urgency, irregular flow, weak stream, straining and getting up at night to urinate.

Rezum provides the following benefits:

  • Potential alternative to BPH medications

  • Relieves symptoms safely and effectively

  • Provides symptom improvement over a 3-6 month period

  • Preserves sexual and urinary functions

  • Allows patients to return to regular activities within a week

How does Rezum work?

Inside a hand-held device, radio frequency energy is applied to a few drops of water to create vapour (steam). The water vapour is injected into the prostate tissue that is blocking the flow of urine from the bladder, where it immediately turns back to water, releasing the energy stored in the vapour into the cell membranes. At this point, the cells are gently and immediately damaged, causing cell death. Over time, your body will absorb the treated tissue through its natural healing response.

When will I see results?

Symptom improvement following the procedure is gradual. Responses to the treatment can and do vary.

Is it the right treatment option for me?

Patient’s who are experiencing the below BPH symptoms may be suitable for the Rezum treatment:

-       Urinary frequency and urgency

-       Weak stream

-       Stopping and starting when urinating

-       Straining to begin urination
